Outreaching – January Update

Christ in the Mess!

At Christmas time we celebrate the birth of our savior. But have we ever really thought of what he did? Jesus came to this earth as a helpless little child. He had to learn to walk, to talk, and to be potty-trained. The creator of the universe humbled himself and became man, one of his own creations.

He came into our messy lives to show us the way, to help us untangle the messes we get ourselves in without him. I am grateful that God sent his son, into our messy lives. Jesus came to show us the way and to show us the path of life.
He is modeling how we should live our lives.

Our family has been knocking on doors 4 days a week for over a year now. We have talked with so many people telling them about God’s glorious plan for them. We are putting ourselves out there to be Christ representatives, just like he tells us we are.  (2 Cor 5:20)

When we serve Christ, we don’t always get to choose how he uses us. We never know who is going to be on the other side of the door. We don’t know how they will respond. We don’t know what they are going through and have been through. In other words, Jesus just tells us to go, he will show us how he wants to use us.

Last July, Grace and knocked on the door of a home in Somerton, AZ. A young mother answered and proceeded to tell us her whole story.

In summary, she has a very colorful past of drug use and many other horrible things surrounding that. She felt really comfortable telling us everything. God brought us there that night. She needed a lifeline, and God was starting to use us.

I will be honest, when you put yourself out there and tell people you want to help them, you just never know how God is going to use that. In reality, our flesh does not want to get messy. We don’t want to insert our lives into the messy lives of others because it is messy. We want our clean, controlled, sanitized lives. We want to surround ourselves with others just like us.

I had fears about what could be asked of me or what uncomfortable situations I might find myself in, because I made myself available. You can have the thoughts like, “what am I getting myself into”!

If you want the full story about how God used us in her life, you can read it here.
