Helping Someone Who is Hurting
We had a large group out this night working a neighborhood the west part of town. There was our family of 7, the Ramirez family of 5 and two others (Joel and Jackson) from our church – 14 total. It was a nice crew to impact people for Christ.
One home that was knocked on by our son Josh and Josh Ramirez. They had a very nice conversation with a woman named Lupe.
Lupe was a little down for several reasons. She felt disconnected from God, from her neighborhood, and from one of her sons. Her son lives about a mile away from her but tells her it is too far to come and visit. This also affects her ability to see her 14 year old granddaughter.
Josh & Josh listened to her and encouraged her with the truth of God’s word. They probably talked with her for an hour.
At the end of every night we all come back together to do an “after action report”. This is an opportunity for us to recap all the conversations we had that night. It is super encouraging to hear all that God did through the night that we got to be a part of!
Josh and Josh told us about Lupe. We all came to the conclusion that we should come back the next week and bless her with some flowers, a gift card, candy, etc. The next Saturday was the day before Mother’s day so we thought that would be a good time to do it.
One Week Later….
We did show up that Saturday and she was overwhelmed and in tears. It was all because she was feeling God’s love. We spoke to her about 20 minutes. We asked her how her week was.
She said her week was very different. She had a different outlook on life. She said she felt something different. She said that something warmed her heart. She said that it has cost her a lot to trust and she doesn’t talk with anyone.
When Josh and Josh came to her door that night she said she could see something different. She said she had never seen someone with such love.
Praise God for his work in Lupe’s life!
