With the winter season upon us, that means many things for people in Yuma. One, there will be many “snowbirds” returning to enjoy the sun and escape the cold weather up north. The second thing is the influx of migrant workers. Yuma produces 90% of the leafy green vegetables in the US during the winter time. The number of crops is too numerous to list.
With the crops there comes a need for farm workers. These workers come from all over Mexico to harvest these crops. They sign 3-5 month contracts. They work long hours and when payday comes, they send the money home.
These migrant workers present a great opportunity for the gospel. Many have come to the US several times over the years, but when they are here, they are away from their family. They do work varied schedules and sometimes it is even through the night. We take the opportunity to meet them during the holidays when they aren’t working. You can see some of the past work here –
Thanksgiving we went to some local motels to share the gospel, pray for them, and to give them Bibles. This year we had some great opportunities.
Hi everyone! We went out to some migrant apartments today on 4th street. What a sweet blessing. These guys work constantly and don't get time off. We met this guy Juan Carlos. He's a new friend. I'm hoping he'll come over to our house the next free day he has.We handed out 18 Spanish bibles today. Please pray for them to accept this message of Christ.
