Where Are the Workers?
Jesus tells us about the Harvest in the book of Matthew…
Matthew 9:37-38 NLT – 37 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”
In the 3+ years of active evangelism, this verse rings truer and truer every day. We meet people all the time that have spiritual interest in God or have questions about faith or people that are truly seeking after Him. We rejoice at those opportunities for conversation to encourage others and point them to Jesus.
We have visited or been a part of 28 churches in the last 3.5 years and we have not found very many people that are actively, deliberately, scheduling time to reach out and share faith with a hurting world.
Sure, some churches say we do evangelism, but it might be one event in the summer to invite people to Vacation Bible School. That is fine, but is that all we are willing to do? Is that all the emphasis that we put into sharing the greatest message in the world?
One Sunday we split up as a family to attend a couple of different churches. The church that my wife attended had a sermon that talked about evangelism and sharing our faith. He even called out a guy in the congregation and mentioned he was a street preacher.
My wife was super excited and encouraged to talk to this guy. When they had a conversation, she found out it had been over a year since he had been out sharing the gospel…. yet he is called a street preacher but hasn’t done it in a year?
That is like calling me a missionary because I spent 10 days in Honduras for a short-term mission trip back in 2001.
Do we really believe the message we say we believe? Then we cannot keep it to ourselves. It is the mission of all Christians to share the faith that has been entrusted to us! Go – take a step of faith and do it and take a friend with you!
Blessings to you!
